Versos de campanillas (I)

En la poesía de Dylan hay cientos de rincones llenos de magia, parajes por re-descubrir, detalles técnicos que no siempre afloran tras una primera ojeada a sus textos.

Se discute mucho si Bob Dylan es más poeta que músico o viceversa. Se especula sobre si su obra se estudiará en los institutos dentro de algunas décadas. Se polemiza al hilo de su permanente candidatura al Premio Nobel de Literatura y de si alguna vez los sesudos miembros de la Academia Sueca le recompensarán con el más alto galardón al que un ser humano puede aspirar.

Sea como fuere, lo que resulta indudable es que no hay nadie en el panorama de la música del siglo XX que pueda hacerle sombra ni como compositor, ni como intérprete, ni como letrista. Y eso, sin hablar de la influencia ejercida sobre decenas de generaciones pasadas, presentes y futuras. A su lado, por ejemplo, hasta los tan idolatrados Beatles parecen cuatro chavales de esos que gustan únicamente a las quinceañeras.

Que Dylan es un verdadero poeta, con mayúsculas, no creo que a estas alturas pueda ponerse en duda. Es cierto que con el paso de los años, sus textos han perdido brillantez, que ya no tienen esa aureola legendaria que impregna muchas de sus composiciones de mediados de los ’60; es cierto que su voz, tal vez cansada de predicar en vano, marcha ahora por otros derroteros, pero no por ello sus letras carecen de interés e intensidad narrativa.

Y así como resulta relativamente fácil elegir la mejor canción de Dylan de forma global, esto es, en cuanto a su música o su trascendencia social (la cosa va por gustos, pero al final todo quedaría en un mano a mano entre dos o tres candidatas), en cambio es verdaderamente complicado escoger la que presenta más calidad poética. Porque junto a au­tén­ticos pesos pesados de la talla de Visions of Johanna, Desolation row, Idiot wind, o A hard rain’s a-gonna fall, podríamos colocar perfecta­mente una serie de joyas ‘menores’ llamadas To Ramona, If you see her, say hello, Love minus zero/No limit, Dirge…

¿Para qué seguir, si la nómina de textos poéticos sería inacabable? Y lo que es más importante, ¿cómo explicar sus recursos retóricos, sus juegos de palabras, sus aliteraciones, cómo desentrañar el efecto de cada una de sus comas o la longitud de cada uno de sus versos?

Y hablando de versos. Ya es hora de hacer una pequeña reseña de aquellos versos de Bob que han sido utilizados para titular libros, álbumes, revistas, cuadros, etc. Es quizá una de sus facetas artísticas menos inves­tigadas. Por ahora nos centraremos en los versos que han servido para dar nombre a álbumes, bien del propio Dylan o bien de solistas o grupos que han seguido la estela abierta por el gigante de Minnesota.
